• Nov 27 Philippine Holiday cancelled by Pres Arroyo

The November 27 Philippine Holiday that were announced last week shall now be celebrated as a regional holiday in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao only. While Visayas and the rest of Luzon will have a regular working day.

Last week, President Gloria Arroyo declared November 27 and November 28 as special non-working holidays for Eidul Adha. Since it was an executive order, it will only be applicable for 2009.

Holidays in the Philippines have brought businessmen into complaining over lost productivity and the hassle of preparing mandatory holiday and overtime salaries in a short period of time. Even though Arroyo administration’s “holiday economics” has been enhancing local tourism and promote more quality time and bonding among Filipino family members, others view it as an experimental fix for this long-wreck government.

Many office workers, laborers and vacation-goers have set their schedules and now canceling them because of this holiday changes. Well, what can you say? It’s only here in the Philippines, ika-nga!
